1834 Portrait of the Bronte Sisters - This is a modern print on canvas of the only known portrait of the Bronte sisters (Anne, Emily, and Charlotte) which was painted by their brother, Branwell.
Branwell was the sole Bronte son and was a painter and poet. Born in 1817, he painted this portrait when he was just 17 years of age. It is almost certain that the ghostly column in the middle was Branwell himself, but was erased by the artist.
The portrait was seen and described by writer, Elizabeth Gaskell, in 1853, but was then lost for sixty years. It was rediscovered in 1914, folded on top of a wardrobe.
The original triple portrait painting resides in the National Portrait Gallery in London.
